About
Schizophrenia affects approximately 1% of the world population. That is a lot of people – and their respective network of friends and families increases the number of people directly impacted by the devastating illness. However, in a world where psychotic disorders are often stigmatized and rarely discussed, it is unfortunately common that affected patients and their caregivers feel alone and helpless.
Why do we feel so alone in our journey? Learning about psychotic disorders is not part of the standard education curriculum at school or university. Because of this, we are not equipped or prepared to handle the situation when symptom onset occurs.
What if society stopped labelling people with schizophrenia as “crazy”, “schizophrenic” and violent? What if families were better educated on how to provide social support for their affected love one? What if there was a go-to place for schizophrenia caregivers across the globe to seek online support from other caregivers and mental healthcare professionals?
That is our mission.
